Bc Zalgiris Kaunas – Saski Baskonia Match Prediction | 23-08-2019

Jankunas scored 15 points with 5 rebounds, while Pangos scored 14 with 4 assists. On the other hand we have Zalgiris Kaunas, who despite their strong presence at home, fell by 78:8 against the visiting Fenerbahce last week. Despite the loss, Zalgiris Kaunas have won seven of their last eight matches in all competitions. They outscored the Lithuanians by 20:33 and eventually won the match. Beno Udrih is still considered as questionable to participate. They are now sitting at the 5th spot of the Euroleague (W12 L13), with an average of 81.2 points per match, while conceding 79.96 in the process. Micic and Davies also scored in double digits, but that was it for Zalgiris Kaunas. They were actually up by 9 points by the end of the first half, but their opponents launched an all-out attack at the fourth quarter.

Baskonia are the favorite at home as the underwhelming so far Zalgiris dont pose a threat on the road. Baskonia on the other hand are better in boards grabbed (31.6 to 29.2), in dimes made (18.1 to 17.5) and in turnovers committed (12.3 to 12.7). Baskonia have a 7-3 home record so far, while Zalgiris are 4-7 on the road. Baskonia are better offensively, scoring 81 ppg to Zalgiris 77.9, while both teams are almost equal defensively, allowing 79.8 and 79.5 ppg. Zalgiris have better percentages both in field goals (48.6% to 47.5%) and in 3-pointers (37.4% to 36.3%). In their previous meeting in the first round of the season, Baskonia won on the road with a 79-87 score.

Baskonia didnt make a lot of changes in the off-season, only losing Beaubois, Timma, and Malmanis. They did win a consolation match but eventually lost easily by 3-1. But they had a really tough match-up in the playoffs, as they were up against Fenerbahce and coach Obradovic. They brought in Shields and Hilliard (Austin Spurs), Sedekerskis returned from loan, while Youssoupha Fall was brought in from Le Mans but was loaned to Strasbourg. On the other hand, Baskonia made a great finish in the regular season of the Euroleague last year, and eventually settled at the 7th spot (W16 L14).

Baskonia have a 11-12 record so far this season and are currently tied with Bayern in the 8th place of the league. They are led in scoring by Tornike Shengelia with 12.7 ppg, adding 4.5 boards per game. In their last game they saw a two-game winning streak getting snapped by losing on the road against Barcelona with a 77-67 score.

Zalgiris Kaunas - Saski Baskonia

Huertas was sensational in just 22 minutes of action, scoring 19 points with 7 assists and 80% on his field goals. Baskonia are coming off a really strong performance on the road against Spanish rivals Valencia last week, whom they defeated by 71:81. Baskonia have now won four in a row, and look really determined to be among the 8 best teams. They score an average of 82.08 points per match, against 80.16 conceded. Baskonia actually struggled a little bit at the first half, where they were down by five points by the half time break. They are currently sitting at the 9th spot of the Euroleague (W12 L13), just a single win behind the playoffs. Voigtmann was also great with 16 points and 9 rebounds, while Poirier posted a nice double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. However, they quickly snapped out of it, as they made their comeback at the third quarter, and eventually overturned the lead in their favor at the final quarter for the final 71:81.

They played against Greek side Olympiacos Piraeus in the playoffs and easily overcame them by 3-1. But they defeated CSKA Moscow in the match for he 3rd place by 77:79, so thats something. They were much better at home (W11 L4) than they were on the road (W7 L8), but they had the 4th best away record nonetheless. They fought really hard against Fenerbahce in the Final Four but lost by 76:67. They lost Micic, Toupane, Pangos, Udrih, Masiulis and Valinskas in the transfer window, but did very little to replace them. Zalgiris Kaunas did a pretty solid job in the Euroleague last season, finishing 6th in the regular season (W18 L12). They brought in seven players, but only two of those had some Euroleague experience (Westermann, Wolters).
