Analysis: Last week, BC came away with one of the biggest wins of its season against the University of Miami. Tech team that was just trounced at home by Georgia Tech, and is looking to right the ship. The Eagles controlled the Hurricanes in every phase of the game, and never trailed. But if last weeks game was big, this Saturdays matchup with the Virginia Tech Hokies is monumental. The Eagles are ranked once again, but face a very daunting task in playing a hungry Va.

The Eagles average 5.9 yards per play, which is 54th in college football. He averages 7.6 yards per pass attempt and 8 adjusted yards per throw. His quarterback rating this year is 143.3. Virginia Tech (0-0) vs. BostonCollege (0-0) Game Preview

I think the key to this game will be BCs ability to call plays effectively on offense, as vanilla play calling contributed to the Eagles two losses this season. From a player perspective, I see this as a battle in their trenches between AJ Dillon and the Va. But dont discount Bud Fosters defensive philosophy, which has traditionally stifled BCs offenses. Couple that with the fact that Scot Loeffler was on the Virginia Tech staff not too long ago, and we should have a battle of wills and minds in Lane Stadium when the BC offense is on the field. The Hokies got trampled in the run game against the Yellow Jackets, and that has to be on the forefront of Steve Addazios mind as his team preps for this game. This has all the makings of a hard-nosed clash between two physical, tough football teams. Tech run defense.

I will admit that I have a hard time predicting that Scot Loeffler can outmatch Bud Foster in a football game but I think that this is the year that it happens. Boston College is playing some very good football of late and it doesn't hurt that they have one of the top tailbacks in the nation at their disposal. While Virginia Tech wasn't able to stop running water against Georgia Tech on the ground, I do think the Hokies can contain AJ Dillon to a certainextent, but Boston College will find ways to put points on the board. The Hokies offense will match them for most of the game but the Boston College run game becomes too powerful for the Hokies who give up a big play late.

Lynch in overtime. Hartfords Jason Dunne was able to hit three FTs with 4.9 seconds left in regulation to force overtime, and the Eagles couldnt avoid the upset loss at home after having no answers on the defensive end for Hartfords, J.P. The Boston College Eagles had their 3-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 9-3 (0-0 ACC) on the season after being defeated by the Hartford Hawks, 79-78 in OT, this past Monday. Boston College shot 45.8% from field however, lost the turnover battle by a 19-13 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Eagles was Ky Bowman who had a double-double with 44 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks, and 5 steals.

Ryan Willis has thrown for 1,258 yards and 10 touchdowns with three interceptions. Their run defense is giving up 171.9 yards per contest. Offensively, Tech is putting up 32.1 points and 436.7 yards per game. Damon Hazelton is the leading receiver with 35 catches for 596 yards and six touchdowns while Steven Peoples has rushed for 458 yards and five scores. The Hokies are allowing 28 points and 425.3 yards per game on defense this season.

With that being said, Tech has plenty of weapons in the passing game and is not afraid to sling it around. Its hard to pick against the Hokies at home, but Boston College knows whats at stake here. BCs secondary has been opportunistic this season (13 interceptions) and with a backup quarterback under center, Hamp Cheevers, Lukas Denis and company have to be licking their chops. Despite Virginia Techs 4-3 record, this is an even matchup and itll likely go down to the wire. This is a veteran team that I believe will rise to the challenge, defeat the Hokies and head into Clemson next week with their confidence at an all-time high.
